Ready to build a strong future in construction? The YMCA Home Builders Training Program gives you the skills, certifications, and confidence to start a rewarding career in Ontario's growing skilled trades sector. The program is offered free of charge to participants.
What you'll learn
This hands-on program combines technical training with job readiness preparation. Training covers:
- Exterior sheathing and framing for high-performance homes
- Advanced insulation materials, air sealing, and moisture control
- Green construction principles and sustainable building materials
- Job readiness and academic preparation
Format and duration
- 8 weeks of hands-on technical training, delivered full-time
- A paid work placement of 4 to 6 weeks with local employers
What you'll gain
Participants earn recognized safety certifications and credentials, including:
- First Aid & CPR-C
- WHMIS
- Working at Heights
- Worker Health & Safety Awareness in 4 Steps
Free program materials are also provided, including textbooks, personal toolkits, and personal protective equipment (PPE).
Who it's for
To be eligible, applicants must be:
- 18 years of age or older
- Legally authorized to work in Canada (citizens, permanent residents, convention refugees with open work permits, or newcomers with valid work authorization)
- Ontario residents
- At Canadian Language Benchmark Level 7 or higher in English
- Able to commit to full-time attendance for the 8-week program, with the intention to work in the field
